Wedding First Look Guide

To do a first look, or not to do a first look? First of all, there are many forms of a first look. There is a first look with your love of course, that's what typically comes to mind, but there are also first looks with siblings, parents, children, your bridal party, etc.

So is a first look right for me? First looks are some of the sweetest moments on a wedding day. A lot of people worry that a first look will ruin that sweet look from your love as you walk down the aisle, but I promise that it won't. Emotions are high on your wedding day, and even if they have already seen you, they are still going to be over the moon that they are marrying you in just a few short moments.

So why do a first look? This is a great way to calm your nerves and ground yourself on your big day. Getting to spend a few intimate moments with your love. Just the two of you. It also removes that nervous anticipation of seeing each other for the first time when you walk down the aisle in front of everyone, and you get to talk to each other and express how beautiful your love is and how much you love them. If your photographer(s)/videographer(s) capture it right, it will feel like you are alone in your little time bubble. It also gives you a few minutes away from the craziness of the activities and timeline of the day, because trust me, it is a day that flies by with back to back moments and you may not get much time alone with just the two of you until the festivities are over.

Armed with that knowledge, say you still don't want to do a first look, there are some other ways that you can get sweet intimate moments and spaces of calm in the first part of your day - pre-ceremony. You can hold hands around a door or a corner, say a prayer, read letters to each other, or read letters alone from one another. Or you can do a first look with a parent, with your best friend or wedding party, your children, your siblings, or your grandparents. There are limitless options.

If this is something your interested in, talk through it with your photographer and settle on something authentic to you and your day.

Cheers!
